Course Description

This course provides a practical and accessible introduction to the COBie standard, focusing on how asset information is structured, delivered, and used across BIM-enabled projects. Participants will learn how COBie supports digital handover, enhances operations and maintenance workflows, and integrates into the wider BIM process.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Explain the purpose and value of COBie within construction and FM.

2. Understand the COBie data schema and key worksheets.

3. Navigate, interpret, and validate COBie spreadsheets.

• Information delivery throughout project stages

• Typical COBie requirements in contracts and EIRs

 

Module 4: Working with COBie

• How COBie data is generated from BIM tools

• Importing and exporting COBie from software

• Integrating COBie with IFC and asset management systems

 

Module 5: Quality and Validation

• Common issues and how to avoid them

• Data quality checks and validation tools

• Ensuring completeness, accuracy, and consistency

 

Module 6: Practical Exercise (Workshop)

• Hands‑on navigation of a COBie spreadsheet
